Sustainability

ForestWave believes in taking responsibility for her employees, clients and the environment. We pursue sustainable growth for our company and our clients. We do this by educating our employees and offering sustainable innovations to strengthen our customer’s supply chain.

1. Committed to the environment

At ForestWave Navigation we strongly believe in responsible environmental management. It improves the quality of the environment in which we live and benefits our company and customers. We strive to conduct and grow our business in a sustainable way that meets the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.

We constantly measure our impact on the environment through performance indicators and strive to minimize this impact by improving our performance. Furthermore, we promote environmental awareness among our employees by campaigns, education and having strict procedures in place to deal with ballast water, cargo and other potentially polluting materials.

2. Sustainable strategy

Our sustainable strategy is designated to support our business strategy and contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By analysing the SDGs, we noticed we can contribute significantly on at least seven on these. These can be classified in the following three areas where we can make a difference:

  • Care for people
  • Responsibility for the environment
  • Drive sustainable growth

In order to fulfil our sustainable strategy, it is inevitable to do this in partnership with our stakeholders like our customers, manning agents, suppliers and authorities.

3. Care for People

Our dedicated and passionate people continuously contribute to the success of the company with their hard work and great effort.

It is in our nature to care for our people. Growing sustainable and care for people go hand in hand. That is why this is one of the pillars of our sustainable strategy.

We attach great importance to sustainable employability. This means our employees like to come to work to do the right things and oversee their development and career. They are vital, dedicated and engaged to ForestWave.  As an employer, we know what drives and motivates our people and we have a clear view on how to attract, commit and engage them. It is essential to provide a transparent, safe and secure working environment.

The following three components show how we contribute to care for our people:

Human rights & diversity We respect human rights and support diversity and inclusion
Safety & health We ensure a safe & healthy work environment for all our employees
Education & training We stimulate and challenge our people by education and training

4. Responsibility for the Environment

In the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change the Paris agreement has been signed and adopted by all nations in 2015. This agreement sets out to limit global warming to 2 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels.

To achieve this long-term temperature goal, global action is required and greenhouse gas emissions must be reduced as soon as possible.

In the European context, these new emission goals will be implemented for the industry within the Green Deal and for the global shipping industry, the IMO set strict targets for 2030 and 2050.

Global warming, greenhouse gases in general, and CO2 in particular, are threatening our environment. As a maritime shipping company operating worldwide, we have a responsibility to contribute to the improvement of the environment and the reduction of greenhouse gasses and CO2.

In order to contribute to fight against climate change, we focus on minimizing the following:

Energy & emissions We minimize the impact of emissions, effluents and waste
Noise impact We minimize the impact of noise and maximize disaster response

5. Drive Sustainable Growth

We intend to achieve responsible growth and further improve our market position in shipping dry bulk, break bulk and project cargoes. Innovation in technology and digitalization contribute to a large extent to making shipping more efficient and sustainable.

Growing sustainable means that we add value to society and our business and not harm the environment and people.

We identify the following three areas which contribute to our sustainable growth:

Operational excellence We strive for operational excellence
Sustainbable shipping We promote sustainable shipping
Behave ethically We behave ethical and lawful and combat corruption and bribery

6. Partnerships

Together we can make a difference

We can only realize sustainable growth if we work closely together with our partners, making a partnership more than just a formal arrangement. They can increase the impact that we make by looking at the cooperation and see where we can make a difference together.

Therefore, we need to collaborate and build partnerships, whether it is with our customers, suppliers, manning agents, associations or authorities.
